J. W. Ostendorf,
    J.W. Ostendorf GmbH & Co. KG (JWO) is a producer and supplier of paints. The company was founded in 1948 by Joseph William Ostendorf as a manufacturer of industrial paints and varnishes. Declared aim was then as now, to offer end user-friendly products at the highest level of quality at an optimum price/performance ratio. JWO is a full-range supplier of paints/varnishes and emulsion paints for trade and as a manufacturer of DIY products targeted towards the consumer. So a focal point is providing of DIY and the development and management of its own brand of trade. Another focus is the concentration on European markets with their different national preferences and aspects of quality. Thus, JWO has a high degree of differentiation of products. So today’s product range includes up to 1,600 articles in the respective customer presentation. The business fields to be considered are:

    • Interior, exterior and special emulsion paints, lacquers (solvent based, water-soluble, solvent-free), varnishes (solvent based, water-soluble, solvent-free) in the respective colours and plasters, special products and tools,
    • Different quality hierarchies: from entry-level to the premium product.

    An essential part of the philosophy of JWO is handling of man and nature. 1996, as one of the first companies in the paint and coatings industry, JWO achieves a status of validated environment management in accordance with the EC Eco-Audit 1836/93 and in 2000 the re-validation of environmental management according to EC Eco-Audit 1836/93 succeeds. 2002 JWO is awarded a Hygiene Certification of production, as the first paint manuafacturer. Since January 2003 JWO is also certified in international standard for environmental management systems and has since October 2003 an accreditation for its testing laboratory of DIN EN ISO 17 025 as first German colour manufacturer. With the future technology TDF in 2006 JWO commissions one of the largest and most modern colour factory in Europe in 2006. In 2008 Europe’s most modern goods distribution centre for integrated DIY-store logistics is constructed by JWO supplying customers from all over Europe.

    key personnel Ulrich Nauber
    Graduated economic chemist, was studying at the Westfälischen Wilhelms Universität Münster. He is specifically interested in the potentials of life-cycle assessments for companies from business domain of special chemical industry. Since 2010 he is working at JWO supporting the team for technical company development and directly assisting the head of integrated management systems at JWO. In this position he is addressing both, the strategic technical company development as well as the continuous adaptation and integration of innovative approaches in daily practice.
      Kai Minck
    Graduated as Master of Arts at Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz after his international baccalaureate at UWC/Wales. Long track record of business management projects in media and chemical industry where he represented BASF as a spokesman in numerous corporate energy related issues such as eco-efficiency analysis. At JWO he takes care of external communications, management systems and corporate social responsibility. Furthermore as a certified energy manager he actually drives forward JWO’s certification according to the standards of ISO 50001.
